RIP my PC

My PC finally gave up the ghost yesterday after months of twitchy threats. I am gutted. The SATA controllers have been losing my drives on and off and at last have lost them altogether.
Every ASUS board I have ever bought has broke down.
I have had to order another board (Gigabyte this time) and will have to wait until at least tuesday for it but my greatest fear is getting the after market heatsink off of my CPU. It took at least 45 minutes of swearing to get it on and I am not sure that I can even get into the clip to unfasten it.
The good news is that the new board has two PCI slots that are both away from the main PCI-E slot (never understood the mentality of putting a slot next to a graphics card slot on a high end board when the makers know that the majority of users will get a wide high end card that covers the second one) so I can now have my PhysX card back in the PC with my sound card and will have hardware physics in both PhysX and Havok powered games. Yay!
Then I can get back to reviewing games for Boomtown again!

Re: RIP my PC

Tough break, man.

My PC died on me a few weeks back, but OcUK were quick to repair it, despite my warranty being several months out of date. They even upgraded several of my components for free.

I share your pain with CPU heatsinks, though. I've sliced my fingers many times installing them, and - as you say - they're a motherfucker to remove.

Good luck, to be honest. tongue

Re: RIP my PC

Fixed at last! My new Gigabyte board seems to be running well. It's the first time I have ever had zero problems with installing a new board without having to reinstall Windows.
On another note though, even though I have now installed my old BFG PhysX card it seems that the swine at Nvidia have deemed it prudent in their great wisdom to cut all PhysX PPU from their driver support for new AAA titles. WTF!
Trying to force people to buy their graphics cards by abusing the trust of early adopters of the PhysX evolution is seriously messed up and I will NEVER buy anything to do with Nvidia again.
